Cranston IT Market Overview
The Cranston IT Market in 2026
A State Capital Campus, a Retail Core, and a Commercial City Between Them
Cranston holds the largest concentration of state government property in Rhode Island and almost none of that IT work reaches the providers on this page. The John O. Pastore Center covers 325 acres inside the city, with 35 buildings and about 1.5 million square feet occupied by the Division of Motor Vehicles, the Department of Corrections, the Department of Labor and Training and seven more state agencies, all of which manage their own systems under state contract. The commercial city is everything else, and it is substantial: Providence County carries 16,439 employer establishments and 270,255 employees, Cranston's own labour force stood at 42,547 with 3.2 percent unemployment, and Garden City Center alone runs 530,000 square feet of retail. Health care employs 6,553 Cranston residents, retail 4,864 and manufacturing 4,703, and the clinics, stores, plants and professional offices behind those numbers have nobody on staff to patch a server or monitor a firewall. They buy managed IT services instead of hiring for them.
What Cranston-Area Providers Actually Sell
Twenty-three verified providers support Cranston businesses, and twelve service lines repeat across nearly all of them. Managed IT services and IT support carry the monthly fee, proactive 24/7 monitoring and network monitoring catch faults before staff notice, help desk support answers the tickets, cybersecurity services and managed detection and response protect the endpoints, backup and disaster recovery proves the restore, cloud services and Microsoft 365 administration run the mailboxes, network management and VoIP keep the office talking, IT consulting with vCIO work sets the three-year plan, structured cabling and wireless design handle the building, vendor management chases the line-of-business software vendor, and compliance support covers the paperwork. Co-managed IT suits a company that already employs one administrator, and firms will migrate a mailbox estate to Microsoft 365 or take a clinic through a HIPAA risk assessment as a project. Two menus now carry AI services, named as AI Solutions at Secure Future Tech Solutions and Artificial Intelligence at Apex Technology Group, while Secure Future Tech Solutions, Freedom Tech and Connekted are the three listed firms that put penetration testing in their own service lists. The industries served cluster in healthcare and dental, manufacturing, construction and trades, professional services and accounting, legal, retail, nonprofits and education.
Twenty-One Listed Offices Measure Within 13 Miles of City Hall
Cranston has more local supply than almost any city of 83,250 in the country, because Providence starts at its northern boundary. Eighteen of the twenty-three providers publish a street address on their own website, and three of them sit inside a mile and a quarter of City Hall on one street. UplinkIT works from 400 Reservoir Avenue Suite 2F at 0.55 miles, Attain Technology from 275 Reservoir Avenue at 0.76 and CMIT Solutions of Central RI from 1140 Reservoir Avenue Suite 200 at 1.12, because Reservoir Avenue runs continuously from Cranston into Providence. Apex Technology Group is the other firm headquartered inside Cranston, at 2158 Plainfield Pike Suite 1, 4.03 miles west. Warwick supplies Secure Future Tech Solutions at 475 Kilvert Street, Vertikal6 at 30 Service Avenue, Signal Solutions at 175 Metro Center Boulevard, ITSG at 2980 West Shore Road and Remington Computer Services at 250 Centerville Road. Providence adds Braver Technology Solutions at 10 Dorrance Street, Charles IT at 40 Nashua Street, TechCentric at 536 Atwells Avenue, Remi IT Solutions at 225 Dyer Street and Technology Advisory Group at 909 North Main Street. The remaining offices sit in Johnston, Pawtucket, Warren, West Warwick, East Greenwich, North Smithfield and North Attleboro. Five firms publish no street address of their own, and each card names the evidence it rests on instead.
Distance Decided Four Rejections, One by 1.09 Miles
Every listed office was measured and four real managed IT firms were excluded on the number rather than on quality. Straight-line distances from Cranston City Hall put twenty-one offices between 0.55 and 12.75 miles, and the only candidate that landed in the 16-to-23 mile band and survived was MicroNet Systems Integrations of North Attleboro, Massachusetts, whose driving route measured 33,026.9 metres, or 20.52 miles. RetroFit Technologies of Taunton, Massachusetts measured 41,994 metres, or 26.09 driving miles, and is off this page by 1.09 miles despite a 4.9 rating across 41 reviews. OST of Newport measured 50,219.2 metres, or 31.20 driving miles. Braver Technology's Taunton listing, which holds the deepest review record of any genuine MSP in the whole Cranston search at 5.0 across 132 reviews, measured 43,465.1 metres or 27.01 driving miles, so Braver appears here on its Providence listing at 5.0 across 21 instead. Technology Advisory Group's Worcester office sits about 35 miles out and is handled the same way.
The Loudest Cranston Results Are Not Managed IT Providers
Search Cranston for managed IT and the top of the list fills with businesses that do something else entirely. A Google Places sweep of four Cranston IT queries returned 72 places, and the single deepest review record in the whole set is a Cranston computer repair and mobile phone repair shop with 4.9 stars across 1,197 reviews, which also sells video games and drone services. Below it sit a men's health clinic with 202 reviews, an office supply store with 191, a commercial printer with 142, a tax preparation office with 119, an IV hydration clinic with 104, a marketing agency with 79, a security guard agency with 34, a boiler manufacturer with 25, a federal immigration office with 64, a payroll service, a home care agency, a cable company, a process-serving contractor and three business management consultants. A review count is not a qualification. Reading twenty websites is how those were separated from the 23 firms that actually monitor networks and staff a help desk, and it is how a Cranston computer store running a Shopify shelf of 2007 MacBooks and an engineering design house now folded into an Oregon parent were both removed.
Why a Local Provider Is Worth More Here Than the Wage Data Suggests
The local technology labour pool is thinner than the national one and cheaper per hour, which cuts both ways for a Cranston employer. Computer and mathematical occupations make up 2.5 percent of Providence-Warwick employment against 3.4 percent nationally, a pool roughly a quarter smaller than the national share, and they pay a mean 53.76 dollars an hour against 57.73 nationally while all occupations run 33.31 against 33.54. So the salary looks affordable and the candidate is hard to find, and a 30-person Cranston firm that hires one systems administrator still has nobody to cover holidays, nights or a ransomware weekend. A predictable monthly agreement with a responsive local provider buys a bench instead of a single hire. Office rent reinforces the point: Cranston asks roughly 14 to 20 dollars per square foot per year against 21 to 25 in Warwick, so the money saved on space is better spent on a provider that can verify its own response numbers than on a cheaper one that cannot.

Cranston IT Submarkets at a Glance
Garden City, Chapel View and Sockanosset Cross Road
Cranston's retail and professional core, built around the 530,000 square foot Garden City Center that WS Development bought and Whole Foods, L.L.Bean, lululemon and Crate and Barrel anchor, with Chapel View beside it on the old Howard state land. Office suites at 35 Sockanosset Cross Road ask 18 to 20 dollars per square foot per year. Card payments across this district make PCI DSS a live question for hundreds of businesses, and the USCIS Application Support Center sits at 105 Sockanosset Cross Road.
Reservoir Avenue and the Auburn corridor
The street where this roster is densest. UplinkIT works from 400 Reservoir Avenue Suite 2F at 0.55 miles from City Hall, Attain Technology from 275 Reservoir Avenue at 0.76 and CMIT Solutions of Central RI from 1140 Reservoir Avenue Suite 200 at 1.12, which puts three verified providers inside a mile and a quarter of each other. City Hall itself stands at 869 Park Avenue in Auburn, and office space along Park Avenue asks 14.56 to 18 dollars per square foot per year.
Western Cranston and Plainfield Pike
The large semi-rural half of the city west of Interstate 295, where most recent housing has been built and where the industrial park sits. Apex Technology Group runs its headquarters from 2158 Plainfield Pike Suite 1 at 4.03 miles, holds a SOC 2 Type 2 report and guarantees same-day on-site service. Taco Comfort Solutions, headquartered in Cranston since its 1920 founding as the Thermal Appliance Company, runs a 20 million dollar Innovation and Development Center in the city.
The Pastore Center and Pontiac Avenue
The 325-acre state campus off Pontiac Avenue, 35 buildings and about 1.5 million square feet housing the Division of Motor Vehicles, the Department of Corrections, the Department of Labor and Training, the Department of Business Regulation, the Parole Board and the Eleanor Slater Hospital Network, plus the Attorney General's 26,700 square foot Julius C. Michaelson service centre. State agencies manage their own IT, so no provider on this page sells into the campus; the contractors, clinics and suppliers around it are the market.
Edgewood, Pawtuxet Village and the Providence River
The eastern waterfront, where the historic Edgewood Yacht Club sits on the Providence River and Pawtuxet Village straddles the Cranston and Warwick line. Gaspee Days runs its two-mile parade along Narragansett Parkway and its 5K from the Scottish Rite Masonic Center in Cranston, commemorating the 1772 burning of HMS Gaspee. The small professional offices, restaurants and practices here are the classic 5-to-20-seat managed IT client.
Providence, Johnston and Pawtucket to the north
Immediately north, measured at 3.08 to 6.09 miles. Braver Technology Solutions works from 10 Dorrance Street, Charles IT from 40 Nashua Street, TechCentric from 536 Atwells Avenue, Remi IT Solutions from 225 Dyer Street and Technology Advisory Group from 909 North Main Street, with Freedom Tech at 920 Hartford Avenue in Johnston, R&B IT Solutions at 1478 Atwood Avenue and Envision Technology Advisors at 999 Main Street in Pawtucket. Brown University, Rhode Island Hospital and Citizens Financial Group all sit in the same corridor.
