Darren McBride founded the company that became Sierra Computer Group, starting it as Sierra Computer Control in 1982. The early work pioneered English/Arabic computing for various Middle Eastern governments before the company shifted in 1987 to reselling computer equipment and technical services for the local Reno business community.
Under McBride, the company grew through technology shifts and acquisitions, adding network technology, servers, server virtualization, remote monitoring, and proactive network maintenance to deliver managed IT services across Northern Nevada.
In 1997, McBride was named Outstanding Businessperson of the Year for Reno by the U.S. Small Business Administration, the year after the company received the Reno Chamber Excellence in Commerce award.
